Lagoon House

Located on a rural windswept, lagoon-facing site with commanding views to the Kogelberg, the project is evocative of a farm “werf”, a collection of barns configured around a sheltered internal courtyard. The challenge lay in creating openings of a meaningful size to capture specific views, without diluting and fragmenting the “wall” nature of the barn. Openings are clean-cut, detailing is crisp and windows set back into the reveals to enhance the sculpted mass of the barn walls.  The emphasis is on simplicity so as to allow the sense of place to prevail over architecture.
