Shutter House II

The rarity of a large garden boasting views of Lion’s Head, Table Mountain, the Twelve Apostles and the Atlantic Ocean posed a challenge in the ordering of this site. The ground-floor plan was conceived as a journey from the street, through the property, ending in the voluminous living area facing the garden and Lion’s Head. The house defines and maximises the garden space, responding to the sun path and prevailing summer wind. The exterior’s modest palette of slender steel columns, bagged brickwork and white walls, overlaid with shutters and decks, is carried into the classic interior of natural wood, brick, steel and whimsical black-and-white floor tiles.
