Shutter House I

This refurbishment of and extension to a west-facing house with a mountain backdrop and views to Camps Bay, called for simplicity of materials and space, and a balance between controlling the afternoon sun and maximising view opportunities. The steeply tiered locatioin required that the house be pushed towards the back of the site, allowing for the creation of an outdoor living space. The linear arrangement of the house has the living areas and bedrooms on the west (sea/view) side, with openings onto new decks, shielded by pergolas and shutters. The service spaces on the east (mountain) side face onto a private courtyard.
